The GOMMAIRE outdoor wood collection is made of high-quality teak wood and teak root structures. The Emas Brown finish has been developed to provide a rich and warm brown appearance while preserving the natural character of the teak. As with all natural wood products, colour variations, weathering, and surface changes may occur over time. These maintenance guidelines apply to the Emas Brown finish. The following information will help you understand, maintain, and preserve the appearance of your furniture.
Our pieces are meticulously handcrafted from solid teak wood, showcasing subtle variations and imperfections that enhance their distinctive beauty and uniqueness. This natural material possesses inherent characteristics and variations in structure and colour that may evolve over time, particularly when exposed to daylight. The wood is sensitive to significant fluctuations in humidity and temperature, potentially leading to the emergence of cracks, fissures, and wood bendings. Nevertheless, these natural changes are not only welcomed but also harmonize seamlessly with the core philosophy of Gommaire. To further ensure the longevity of our wooden items, we provide a range of maintenance products designed to offer additional protection and optimize their lifespan.
When moving the wooden furniture around, make sure to always lift and never slide it to prevent breakage. Furniture should always be placed on a flat surface. In situations where achieving a perfectly level surface is not feasible, our tables and side tables come equipped with adjustable furniture levellers.
General Maintenance
Start with using a damp cloth to remove dust and any residue left by the packaging and transport.
The surface of the wood can be cleaned with water and natural soap at any given time. Always make sure to treat the entire surface, as local treatments will remain visible. The TEAK CLEANER can be applied on teak outdoor furniture to remove the dirt left by regular usage or air pollution. For surface stains that do not respond to the previously mentioned instructions, our SPOT & STAIN REMOVER can provide further assistance in reducing and minimizing them.
To preserve the original Emas Brown appearance, avoid all abrasive cleaning methods. Do not use scrubbing pads, abrasive sponges, steel wool, or sanding techniques, as these may alter or remove the finish.
EMAS BROWN COLOUR PROTECTOR is currently in development and is specifically designed to help revive, preserve, and maintain the original Emas Brown appearance over time. Until then, regular gentle cleaning and immediate stain removal are strongly recommended.
On the following page, you will find more detailed information about the maintenance products and how to use them.
General steps before applying any of the products
The products are to be used during dry weather and temperatures between 15°C - 30°C. Avoid direct sunlight. Clean the surface with a damp cloth, then make sure it is completely dry before applying the product. The humidity of the wood should be under 12%. For Emas Brown finishes, avoid all abrasive cleaning or sanding methods, as these may alter the surface appearance
Always be careful using the following products. When applied incorrectly, undesired discolourations and changes in the wood could appear. Place a protective layer in between your furniture piece and the floor to protect it from accidental leakage or spills, these might leave behind stains that cannot be removed. If you are unsure about a product, we advise you to test on a non-visible spot on your furniture piece.
Teak cleaner
Use the TEAK CLEANER when your outdoor furniture needs a general cleaning, for example when the wood is weathered or slightly discoloured. Depending on the natural base colour of the teak, cleaning may temporarily enhance underlying warm tones such as pink, yellow, or orange hues. This is a natural characteristic of teak wood and part of its evolution over time.
How to use
Begin by gently rinsing the entire piece with a hose, followed by the removal of any residual water using a soft cloth. Spray the TEAK CLEANER on the entire surface, allowing it to settle for approximately 10 minutes. Use only a soft cloth or soft non-abrasive sponge to gently clean the surface in the direction of the wood grain. Do not use scrubbing pads, abrasive sponges, steel wool, or sanding techniques, as these may affect or remove the finish. Rinse thoroughly to remove all residue and allow the furniture to dry out of direct sunlight. If the outcome does not meet your expectations once the piece has dried, feel free to repeat this treatment.
SPOT & STAIN REMOVER
For more stubborn stains we offer SPOT & STAIN REMOVER. As with any stain, it is important to remove them as soon as possible. Prompt removal of stains is crucial for optimal results. Delaying the removal until the following day may reduce its effectiveness.
How to use
Before usage, shake the spray bottle to ensure the proper mixture. Then spray the SPOT & STAIN REMOVER approx. 20 cm above the stain. Allow the product to sit for a few minutes. To remove the stain, gently brush it out using a brush or lightly dab it with a cloth. Please avoid rubbing with the cloth, as it causes the stain to absorb into the fibres of the wood or affect the surface appearance.
